Based on the amazing success of the last two years Stamford Feast we are delighted to announce that it will be run for a third year and is being hosted by Stamford Town Council. Here are some of the reasons why Stamford Feast is such a great event for the community:
Promoting Multiculturalism:
- A common humanity, mixing of cultures and ideas
Community cohesion:
- Bringing disparate groups together, creating inclusion
- Encouraging interconnectedness of all people through the unifying nature of the human condition
Working in partnership:
- Creating bridges and bonds within all sectors of the community (schools, colleges, councils, voluntary groups, Police, businesses, charities…)
- Displaying a measure of humility and determination to heal previous divides
Those of you who have joined us at this event before will know that this multicultural event based on community and cuisine was such a success that it is now being run in association with the nationally recognised Eden Project, THE BIG LUNCH.
This event is a high quality, fun filled and educational event, bringing all nationalities and cultural groups together, demonstrating food from local, national and worldwide providers. In every culture, food or eating together is how individuals, families and communities honour each other, it is what we do when we ‘come together’. This event is a way of honouring/bringing together every community group no matter how large or small in Stamford.
Stamford is full of wonderful restaurants and bistros run by local talented people along with a number of nationally acclaimed farmers and food producers. We will once again transform Stamford Meadows into a Community Feast… offering a great opportunity to bring the community together for one day to support the local economy.
We also have a kaleidoscope of knowledge and experience on offer within our town and community and we wish to bring this to the event to share with our community and visitors to encourage healthy eating, recycling and exercise.
These are just some of the reasons why over 10,000 people flocked to Stamford Feast in the past two years:
- Chilli Eating Competition!
- International food from suppliers right on our doorstep
- Local food produce from farmers, allotments, farm shops
- Live Food Stage and Cooking Demonstrations
- Healthy living advice and Health checks from Local Government and the Health Service
- Fun and inspirational exercise ideas from local gyms and dance groups
- Bumper Food Hampers
- World music and dance
- Drinks Marquee
- Fun Fair
Can you afford not to be part of this great event for our town?
Huge success at Stamford Feast-The Big Lunch 2012
Organiser of Stamford Feast-The Big Lunch 2012 Ali Hawley-Smith said “We did it… AGAIN! What can I say… Stamford Feast-The Big Lunch 2012, held on Stamford Meadows on Monday 4th June turned out to be even bigger and better than last years, with bells on!
She estimates 12,000 visitors came to the event throughout the course of day, an increase of 50% on last year’s 8,000. Ali said “A great sense of unity and community was felt throughout, which brought the diversity of our town and its visitors together to enjoy some amazing international food and entertainment.”
Bunting and Union Jack flags were flown throughout the day for both the multicultural aspects of the event and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Over 90 traders got into the spirit of the event along with the weekend’s celebrations by decorating their stalls to a very high standard this year and the new Town Mayor Cllr Bob Sandal and local businessman Vic Cozens kindly judged these concluding Woodlands Farm to be the winner.
Ali says “We had a number of special projects running throughout the day which were enthusiastically engaged in by all, including a Children’s Bunting and Crown competition, a Cook Show, Entertainment Marquee, Outdoor Arena, Hamper Tombola and Chilli Eating Contest. Passionate chilli eaters fought their way to enter Stamford’s first ever Chilli Eating Contest, but time allowed only one sitting of 8 brave contestants. They ploughed their through over 12 chillies of increasing heats and determination resulted in a dead-heat between two of them, agreeing on who should have the winners prize of a BBQ and runner up of a Hot Chilli Products Pack sponsored by Cambridge Chilli Farm. This contest brought a massive audience and we will certainly be repeating this again!”
Ali said she would like to take this opportunity to thank the event’s sponsors for their generous support, including Lincolnshire County Council, Stamford Town Partnership CIC, Stamford Town Council, Cummins Generator Technologies, New College Stamford, Taylor Amusements, Duncan and Toplis Accountants, Dawson’s Jewellers and Antiques and Stamford Cookery School.
Ali added that a massive thank you goes out to her fabulously dedicated volunteers, who once again did themselves and Stamford proud. Tirelessly upbeat and high spirited with big smiles on their faces all day, they helped her make this event another flawless and a massive success for their town, even reuniting misses puppies and purses with their owners!
“So, here’s to the planning for our next big community event for Stamford, Stamford Christmas Festival 2012 being held on Sunday 9th December!”
